Conservation planning and financing for the Elephant Protection Initiative

Technical advisory support to the Elephant Protection Initiative connected conservation objectives with financing and institutional cooperation. The work combined resource stocktaking, mobilisation strategy and national action planning to strengthen the policy and partnership foundations of the intergovernmental initiative.

Context and purpose

The Elephant Protection Initiative needed to connect conservation commitments with resources, national priorities and intergovernmental cooperation. Advisory support examined the financial and institutional arrangements that could sustain national elephant action planning.

The work

Research and economic analysis supported a resource stocktake and mobilisation strategy. National Elephant Action Plans were reviewed in relation to national priorities and the SDGs. Work on a Mutual Partnership Framework considered how participating partners could structure their relationships and commitments.

Outputs and use

Resource-mobilisation proposals, action-planning inputs and a partnership framework provided a basis for discussing conservation financing and shared responsibilities. They supported planning and coordination across the initiative rather than demonstrating subsequent conservation outcomes.
